Over the years I’ve studied numerous therapeutic styles and methods, and I integrate insights from many of them into my work as a therapist. Those who are familiar with therapy models may find it helpful to know that I draw primarily on the models listed below.

From my perspective, these technical labels merely point to a variety of ways of talking about how we experience and make sense of the world, relate to ourselves and others, and strive to achieve the goals we value.

In our sessions (typically weekly or every other week) we will use insights from the following approaches to develop understanding, insights, and ideas for steps you might take outside of the session:

  • existential psychotherapy
  • interpersonal process therapy
  • cognitive behavioral therapy
  • mindfulness therapy
  • narrative therapy
  • structural and strategic family systems therapy
  • emotionally focused couples therapy
  • relationship enhancement skills training
  • Gottman Method couples therapy
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

As a generalist I work with clients whose goals are diverse and who face a wide range of challenges and difficulties related to bereavement and loss, life transitions, depression, anxiety, and other problems.

In addition to a generalist orientation, I have particular experience or education inĀ  the following:

  • Couples and relationship-focused counseling
  • Relationship enrichment skills
  • Grief counseling and complicated grief therapy (CGT)
  • End-of-life issues
  • Issues related to sexual orientation
  • Issues related to spiritual and existential questioning
